SYM, a Taiwanese auto manufacturer, has launched the 4MICA in its home country in 125cc and 150cc variants. The 4MICA takes its name from Formica, which means ‘ants,’ and is meant to denote its prodigious weight-bearing capabilities.
Despite being a retro-styled scooter, the 4MICA gets an unconventional design, somewhat akin to a fusion of a moped and a scooter. The fascia of the scooter is minimal, featuring a large circular LED headlight with DRLs, and indicators on either side, which gives off a simple yet modern appeal. On the side, again, it features minimal yet functional body panels coupled with hooks for carrying luggage. The 4MICA gets a split seat setup, where the rear seat can be lifted for extra storage and also works as a backrest for the rider. The scooter comes equipped with a massive floorboard of 410mm for carrying luggage.
The 4MICA 125 is powered by a 124.7cc SOHC engine producing 9.5PS and 9.5Nm, whereas the 4MICA 150 is powered by a 150cc engine churning out 11.3PS and 12.25Nm.
The scooter is suspended on a telescopic fork up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Stopping power is via a disc up front and a drum brake at the rear, paired to single-channel ABS. The 4MICA rolls on 10-inch wheels with 100/90 tyres at both ends.
Weighing in at 125kg, the 4MICA is not exactly light by scooter standards, but to be fair, it is also capable of carrying a good amount of weight and luggage on board. The scooter is long and flaunts a wheelbase of 1,390mm. For perspective, the Honda Activa 125 has a wheelbase of 1260mm. On the features front, the 4MICA comes equipped with a digital instrument cluster, USB sockets and hazard lights.
The quirky Taiwanese scooter will not be heading our way anytime soon, however, you can check out the scooters currently available in India right here.
