Suzuki Gixxer 150 booking begins

Easily one of the best looking 150cc motorcycles in the more affordable price bracket, the new Suzuki Gixxer wowed motoring journalist and enthusiasts alike during its unveiling earlier this year. The neatly chiselled tank, upswept tail piece, chunky 140 section rear tyre and unique twin-holed exhaust give it street presence rarely seen on bikes under the Rs 80,000 category.

After months of anticipation, the Suzuki Gixxer is now ready for launch, as Suzuki two-wheeler dealerships have started accepting booking for the bike in the metro cities. You can reserve your Gixxer for a booking amount of Rs 5,000, and deliveries are expected to begin by August 2014.

Powering the Gixxer will be a 155cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor which is expected to be capable of producing about 13.9PS peak power and 13.4Nm of maximum torque. The air-cooled petrol engine will come equipped with Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) system which helps in improving its fuel efficiency. But unlike the Suzuki GS150R which comes with a 6-speed gearbox, the new Suzuki Gixxer is said to be mated with a conventional 5-speed.

The Gixxer's braking duties are handled by a single disc setup from Bybre at the front and a drum setup at the rear. The bike also sports a 100/70 section 17-inch tubeless tyre at the front and a fat 140/60 x 17 tubeless rubber at the rear.

This will be the fifth motorcycle model in India from Suzuki, after the Suzuki Slingshot (113cc), Suzuki Hayate (125cc), Suzuki GS150R (150cc) and the 250cc Inazuma.
