Nissan will launch the facelifted Sunny next week; lot more kit and improved styling are part of the package

2014 Nissan Sunny facelift

Nissan has given the Sunny a nip and tuck job and the car is all set for a launch on July 03. The facelifted Sunny gets only cosmetic upgrades while the powertrain remains untouched. The facelift comes at a time when the Sunny is facing stiff competition from cars like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

The Sunny gets a bold new face with wide grille and boomerang headlamps in line with modern Nissan sedans. The Sunny gets sportier alloy wheels that are now available on most variants and the ORVMs get integrated turn indicators rounding off the visual changes to the front end facelift. The rear gets re-profiled wrap around tail lights and a sleeker bumper. The Sunny’s USP, its space and storage capacity are retained.

On the inside, there’s a new steering wheel with new audio controls and is wrapped in leather to give the interiors a premium look. Depending on the variant, the 2014 Nissan Sunny facelift also gets 2-DIN audio system with a 5.1-inch display. Other features include rear parking camera, Bluetooth connectivity and AUX and USB ports.

Since the powertrain is unchanged, you get the same 99PS, 1.5-litre petrol and 86PS, 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Both the petrol and diesel engine come mated to 5-speed manual gearboxes; the petrol motor though is also offered with a CVT. We recently drove the diesel Sunny. The Sunny’s sales have more than halved in the first two months of this financial year averaging about 370 units each month. The facelift will give Nissan a new lease of life. Expect prices to go up by around Rs 30,000 which means prices should start from Rs 7 lakh for the base petrol variant.

Recommended Variant : Sunny XL D
