Another version of the D-Max pick-up truck is all set to enter the Indian market. The D-Max space cab that was displayed at the Indian Auto Expo in February 2014 will be launched sometime next week. Isuzu already sells the single and double cab in India priced at Rs 6.8 lakh and Rs 8.1 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi respectively. The D-Max Space cab slots right between the single and double cabs so expect it to be priced amid these two variants.
The Space cab has two doors, front seats and some storage space behind the front seats. No Space cab pick-ups are on sale in India at present making the D-Max the first one. In terms of competition in the pick-up segment though, the D-Max will battle the Tata Xenon and Mahindra Genio.
The powertrain and other mechanical bits are common in the D-Max range. Hence the Space-cab is powered by the same 2.5-litre intercooled turbo-diesel engine doing duty in the D-Max single and double cabs. It develops 136PS of peak power at 3600rpm and 294 Nm of peak torque between 1800-3200rpm. The D-Max space cab has a 5-speed manual gearbox and gets independent suspension in front and leaf springs at the rear. The pick-up has a payload capacity of 1.2 tonnes and comes in three colours – silver, white and blue. The deck will be available in two types – flat and arched.
The D-Max space cab is 5.3 metres long, 1.72 metres wide and 1.65 metres in height. It has a fuel tank capacity of 76 litres.
