Highly anticipated Sports sedan and coupe will finally come to India and with that increase M-Division's presence in our country

BMW M3 and M4 launch on November 26

BMW will launch the hot new M3 and M4 in India on November 26. Till its previous generation, there was no M4 with the M3 moniker used on both sedan and coupe body styles of M-Division’s performance version of the 3-series sedan. With the new generation models though, BMW seeks clear differentiation between the two and so, the M4 is born.

Despite new nomenclature, the M4 is mechanically identical to the M3. The design varies marginally with the M4 heating up a 4-series coupe and the M3 beefing up on the 3-series sedan. The sedan though is the practical alternative of the two. While practicality wouldn’t be at the top of your list if you plan to buy one of these, it does weigh in, in our country. Under the hood is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that pumps out 437PS of peak power and 550Nm of peak torque.

The car is blisteringly quick, even faster than the V8 powered M5, doing the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.1 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than big brother. BMW has moved on from the previous generation M3’s V8 mill to this twin turbo straight six unit. While this has robbed the car of the drama of a naturally aspirated V8, performance has improved considerably.

Internationally, the cars come with 19 inch wheels but for India, BMW should keep the 18 inch wheels with higher profile tyres as standard fitment. This will ease off the stiff ride to an extent. The M3 and M4 will also get the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox specified for India. BMW also has six-speed manual gearbox, but this unit is predominantly sold in the US market and we don’t expect it to be offered in India.
