Following the launch of the new Ciaz and the 2014 Swift (Also Read: 2014 Maruti Swift launched at Rs 4.42 lakh), Maruti now seems to have shifted its focus on the development of a new model that will take on the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20. The new car that is codenamed YRA will not only be larger in size than the Swift but will also be priced higher.
From the looks of it, it seems like Suzuki will continue the family design language from the Swift and the Swift DZire. The YRA too will have triangular swept back headlights and the curvy bonnet smoothly blending into the front grille. The large honeycomb grille also gets a u-shaped chrome surround. Although the overall styling of the bumper is conventional, it does get large air-intakes, fog lamp inserts and a vertical strip of Daytime Running Lamps.
In profile, the doors seem pretty large which is sure to make ingress and egress simpler. Unlike all other cars from the Suzuki stable currently, the ORVMs on the YRA will be fitted on the door as opposed to the A-pillar.
Keeping in mind that it is a car in the B+ segment, the YRA will be wider and roomier on the inside than the Swift.
Under the hood, the YRA is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre and a 1.4-litre petrol mill from the Swift and the Ertiga; along with the 1.3-litre diesel mill.
While there is no confirmation from the Japanese car maker with regards to the launch of the YRA, when it does hit the Indian shores, it will take on the likes of the Volkswagen Polo GT range, Fiat Punto Evo 90HP and of course the Hyundai Elite i20.
