After showcasing its impressive SsangYong range at the 12th Auto Expo at the start of the year, Mahindra is finally upbeat about introducing select models from its Korean subsidiary SsangYong Motor Company here in India, starting with the third generation Rexton.

Touted as a high-end SUV offering for the Indian market, the Rexton once launched will become the first product carrying the SsangYong badge to be introduced in India. Incidentally, the Rexton is no newbie on world streets and currently sells in 66 countries around the world, including markets like Korea, Europe and Russia.

Mahindra will be launching this eagerly awaited high-end SUV in India on the 17th of October in Mumbai, which would be followed by launches in the cities of New Delhi and Bangalore and a phase wise roll out in other markets.

Having acquired the Korean company back in March 2011, Mahindra may have been a little privy about its long-term goals for SsangYong here in India, but with the advent of the third generation Rexton, SUV buyers in the country can be rest assured that only the best is headed their way in the near future starting 17th October.

Commenting on the upcoming launch, Dr Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. & Chairman, SsangYong Motor said, “The launch of the much acclaimed XUV500 last year helped Mahindra stamp its presence on the segment of premium SUVs. The Rexton will be the first SUV from the SsangYong portfolio brought to the Indian market by Mahindra. With the launch of the SsangYong Rexton, we hope to further expand the Mahindra presence in the high-end SUV segment”.

The Rexton, which will soon become the first high-end SUV under the SsangYong banner to be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan facility in India will be plonked with a high-performance diesel engine and is expected to be priced around the Rs 17 lakh price tag.

Hey guys. Please puase for a while. Ssang yong is famous for luanching defective cars. Since many years it's been trying to establish in the global automative segment until it got acquired by mahindra. Its accessories and interior is not superior in class, its very far behind from Santa fe, endeavour etc. I had used Ssang yound SUV long back in korea. Even koreans are not projecting this. They are proud of Hundai. Please judge properly before get cheated!!

mahindra should launch rexton under his own brand name

  • naresh

Rexton and other cars of Ssang yong are just junk and rejected cars from all around the globe. Anyway wanting to waste money can well donate it to the nearest needy institution and gain some blessings instead.

It is end of road for all Santa Fe, Captiva and Pajero Sport ,Fortuner,Endeavour,Yeti and all. We Indian should be proud that Indian Company is innovatively beating global leaders and producing good Automobile technology.

manasifirst of all , when people buy cars they are not exactly dying to spend 17 lakhs to wave the national flag with pride. They want a professional world class ride. so let's stop protecting ineffciencies in the name of patriotism. Tata or Mahindra don't send you a cheque home from their profits. If you want to spend your hard eanred money on a car it better be good - indian or otherwise. Besides, ssangyong is Korean and not Indian by the way
