Hyundai ix25 compact SUV spied testing before launch

The Hyundai ix25 is possibly one of the most awaited cars of the year and has been spied being tested just outside Hyundai’s Chennai factory. From the pictures, it looks like Hyundai is pretty close to finally launching the ix25 in India. The new Hyundai ix25 will go up against the likes of the Ford Ecosport, the Renault Duster, the Nissan Terrano and the soon to be launched Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha

On the exterior front, the Hyundai ix25 essentially has styling similar to the bigger ix35 SUV.  In line with Hyundai’s new design language, the ix25 too gets a large three-slat front grille. Complimenting the chrome grille the Hyundai ix25 will get a set of swept back headlights with LED Daytime Running Lamps and projector headlamps. At the back, the ix25 gets wraparound taillights and a spoiler with integrated brake lights.

On the interior front, the Hyundai SUV will get a set of crisp and fresh interiors like the ones found in the Hyundai elite i20. Expect a spacious interior with a set of comfortable and versatile seats. The model showcased at the Chengdu Auto show features an all-black dashboard but the one that will come to India is likely to have a dual-tone treatment. The four-spoke steering wheel gets silver accents. The instrument cluster hosts two dials for the speedometer and the tachometer with large easy to read font. The centre console gets a large display and an electronic climate control.

Under the hood, the Hyundai ix25 is likely to get the same engine that is found in the Elite i20. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol mill that will pump 82PS of power and 115Nm of torque. The compact SUV will also go on sale with a 1.4-litre diesel mill producing 90PS and 220Nm. The petrol variant will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the diesel will get a 6-speed one. Both variants might also come with an automatic gearbox option in addition to a larger 1.6-litre petrol and diesel version which might be launched eventually.

Expect the Hyundai ix25 to be launched by the festive season for maximum sales and impact and to be priced competitively to take on the Ford Ecosport. The ix25 will also eventually go up against the soon to be launched Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha and the Honda compact SUV.
