The Hyundai i20 Cross will get more power, higher ground clearance and larger wheels. The i20 Cross will take on the Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Avventura

Hyundai i20 Cross details

Hyundai will launch the i20 Cross on March 9 to take on the Fiat Avventura and Ford EcoSport in the compact crossover segment. The i20 Cross Hyundai tells us will be more than just a Elite i20 on stilts. The crossover’s engines will be in a higher state of tune and will have higher ground clearance and larger inch wheels as well. Since the Elite i20 in top trim gets 16 inch wheels, these could be the standard size, a similar strategy adopted from the Avventura.

The i20 Cross will also get LED DRLs in its headlamps. Hyundai had briefly introduced LEDs in the previous generation i20 but found out that buyers in the segment did not want it so it was dropped from the Elite i20. Since the i20 Cross will be positioned differently, the LEDs make a comeback. As far as pricing goes, the company doesn’t want either of the two – the Elite i20 and the i20 Cross to cannibalize sales so there will be a sizeable gap in prices. The Elite i20 is doing very well for Hyundai, the production crossing the 10,000 units mark in a month in January and Hyundai doesn’t want to disrupt this momentum.

The i20 Cross gets the customary crossover plastic body cladding, roof rails to accentuate its height and a different set of alloy wheels. It will be a sub 4-metre car and will benefit from the lower excise duty rates.
