Hyundai Creta compact SUV India launch on July 21

The compact SUV segment is soon going to be one of the hottest spaces in the car market as two new big ticket entrants will go up on sale. While there has been news about the launch of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross in the next two months, Hyundai will launch the Creta on July 21, a popular month for car launches just before the festive season sets in.

The Creta will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine capable of producing 123PS of power and 155Nm of torque, and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel option of the Hyundai Creta could come equipped with a 1.6-litre mill producing 128PS and 260Nm, with a 6-speed gearbox. Mechanicals as a result will be shared with the Verna sedan. Like most Hyundai car models, the Hyundai Creta might also be offered with an automatic gearbox option, possibly the 4-speeder from the Verna.

Design is typical Hyundai fare. Large hexagonal chromed grille, wedge shaped headlamps, vertically set fog lamps to give it that SUV stance and a strong shoulder line running across the sides of the car. Chunky plastic cladding all around the base lines and a blackened A- and B-pillar make the Creta a smartly styled compact SUV.

Being a Hyundai, expect it to be kitted to the gills with features – start/stop, parking camera and sensors, climate control, multi-function steering wheel and a well equipped entertainment system with memory, USB, Bluetooth and Aux-in. Expect prices to start from around Rs 7.5 lakh going all the way up to about Rs 11-12 lakh for the top of the line model.
