The Unicorn 160 will be Honda’s third offering in the middle-weight segment after the standard Unicorn and CB Trigger. Pictures of the much-awaited Honda 160cc bike have already been leaked on the Internet.
Contrary to expectations, the new bike isn’t a premium sporty offering, and offer only minor design upgrades. Design cues more or less seem to be just upgrades on the existing Unicorn and CB Trigger bikes, and the new 160cc offering looks commuterish and sober, despite a slightly larger displacement 160cc engine.
The engine, expected to be a bored out version of the 149cc unit of the CB Trigger, is expected to feature Honda’s patented HET technology for better fuel efficiency. Details of power output aren’t available yet, but we expect it to be marginally more powerful than the CB Trigger with possibly better spread out torque as well.
Despite being a capable 150cc bike, sales for the CB Trigger have not been as much as HMSI expected, compared to rivals from other manufacturers in the same category. We expect the new Unicorn 160 to be priced at a slight premium over the CB Trigger, at around Rs 68,000-70,000 (ex-showroom).
It will be interesting to see whether the Unicorn 160 will altogether replace the CB Trigger or will be offered as a third, slightly more powerful option in this segment from Honda.
