Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of its compact new SUV codenamed the ‘YBA’ internally. This upcoming new SUV has been snapped several times while undergoing tests in the country. But, a recent report on the web suggests that the country’s largest carmaker has registered the name Vitarra Brezza, thus creating a speculation that the company could christen its forthcoming new SUV with this name.
The YBA will be a smaller sibling to the Vitara and reports suggest that it could be powered with a 1.3-litre diesel engine and would be available in five variants i.e L, V, V+, Z and Z+ priced between Rs 7.5-11 lakhs (on-road).
Maruti will also launch the SX4-Cross in the coming months. The SX4-Cross is Maruti’s answer to Renault Duster. The carmaker has been testing this 4.3-metre long crossover in India since 2014.
This upcoming new crossover is expected to come equipped with a 1.4-litre K-Series engine, while the diesel will be powered by a 1.3-litre Multijet engine. The company may introduce a 1.6-litre diesel engine churning out 118PS of power and 313Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission at a later stage. The AWD AllGrip system will not be provided in India, to keep the cost of this vehicle low.
The Maruti SX4-Cross will be the company’s first crossover in India and is expected to be priced under Rs 10 lakh for maximum impact against players such as the Ford Ecosport and the Renault Duster.
