Bajaj Pulsar AS20

Just two weeks after the launch of the Pulsar RS200, Bajaj Auto seems to be going all out on a launching spree, primarily to spruce up its bestselling, but ageing Pulsar range of motorcycles.

On April 14, Bajaj Auto will launch its new range of Pulsar motorcycles in New Delhi, and in all likelihood, will include the new Pulsar AS200, Pulsar 150NS and Pulsar 150AS.

The Pulsar AS200 was first seen in Indonesia and later in Turkey and more recently, the bike has been seen being tested around Pune.

AS for Adventure Sport, the AS200 is not an entirely new motorcycle and is based on the Pulsar 200NS.

The bike sports a quarter fairing and projector headlamps similar to the ones on the popular Pulsar 220. The engine too, is the same unit of the 200NS,  a 199.5cc liquid-cooled motor which makes about 23.5PS peak power and 18.3Nm of maximum torque. It is widely speculated that the Bajaj Pulsar AS200 could replace the Pulsar 220, and the AS200 is expected to be priced around Rs 1 lakh.

The new 150cc Pulsars however, will get more than just cosmetic upgrades. The Pulsar 150NS will be powered by a 149.5cc, single-cylinder engine making 17PS power and 13Nm torque, up about 2PS and 0.5Nm from the current Pulsar 150 engine.

In terms of design, the 150NS will carry forward the same styling of the Pulsar 200NS. The AS150, on the other hand, will follow design cues of the AS200, though powered by the motor of the 150NS. Both the new 150 Pulsars – the AS and the NS – will get telescopic front forks and monoshock rear suspension. Braking will be handled by a disc in front and drum at the rear.

The Pulsar AS150 will compete against the likes of the Yamaha Fazer FI and the Suzuki Gixxer SF and knowing Bajaj Auto’s pricing strategy, the AS150 could be priced very competitively at around Rs 77,000-78,000. And the naked Pulsar 150NS could well see an even more competitive sticker price of around Rs 73,000.

While posting negative sales figures in the last financial year, Bajaj Auto certainly is looking to make a comeback, and the spruced up Pulsars could well be the winning key for Bajaj. After the launch of the new range of Pulsars, there’s another important upgrade happening at Bajaj – the new Avenger. So, keep watching this space for more updates and new launches.
