We take a first ride of the new TVS Scooty Zest 110 at the TVS test track and come back mighty impressed

The new TVS Scooty Zest 110 is the latest upgraded and refreshed version of TVS Motor Company’s bestselling Scooty brand. It shares its engine with the Wego and Jupiter, but has been mildly tweaked for the Scooty Zest.

TVS says it’s mainly targeted at girls– aged between 18 and 24 years, and it has been designed after intensive research based on interviews with the target customer group.

In terms of design and features – the new TVS Scooty gets a new headlamp, with the beam biased slightly towards the left, for better visibility and also not to inconvenience other drivers. The leaf shaped rear view mirrors are newly designed as well.

The front apron gets new styling with what TVS calls twilight lamps, with the TVS logo sitting just below the headlamp. High quality grips, and nice painted switches are in place, and there’s also a useful parking brake. At the rear the Scooty Zest 110 gets new LED tail lamps and a smart-looking grab rail and a new compact muffler with a stainless steel guard.

The speedometer is an all-white backlit unit with speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. There’s an econometer for riders to get the best mileage. And to conserve fuel, there’s an idle indicator – the power mode light starts blinking when the scooter is idling for 90 seconds or more in a stationary position.

The floorboard is a textured unit and TVS claims it’s the widest floorboard in its class. An open glove box provides space to carry a water bottle or other knick knacks and there’s a retractable hook to help the rider hang a small bag. There’s also an underseat hook for hanging maybe a grocery bag or two.

The seat is broad and comfortable, and there’s 19 litres of storage under it –good enough to store a full faced helmet and still more space left for a few books or a laptop.  There’s a convenient EaZy center stand and simple kick start too, in addition to the button start.

The engine is the same as the Wego and Jupiter. It’s a 109.7cc unit which makes 8PS of power and 8.7Nm of torque at 5500rpm. TVS claims it’s got an initial pick up of 0-60 in 11.1 seconds and will return 62 kmpl. This engine however, has undergone some mild tweaks – in the transmission ratios as well as in ignition and combustion.

Ride quality is impressive, thanks to the telescopic front suspension and the hydraulic monoshock rear spring suspension. The suspension has been tweaked specifically for the Scooty Zest 110 and it takes care of bumps and uneven surfaces fairly well. The tyres are tubeless and brakes are both drum – the rear 130mm unit complementing very good stopping power and braking confidence.

TVS Scooty Zest 110 First Ride

It rides well – and riding at the TVS test track, the scooter felt quick and peppy and handled very impressively, even going full clip through a long right handed corner.  I could hit a speedo-indicated top speed of around 85 kmph on the straight of the test track. Most of all, it’s just a very fun scooter to ride.

The best part though – it’s available at Rs 42,300 ex-showroom Delhi – and at that price, the Scooty Zest 110 should be reason enough to be considered a very good buy. And even though it’s targeted at girls, it doesn’t look so feminine to keep even male riders away. In fact, it’s just a very good scooter for everyone.
