New Mahindra Xylo : First Drive

The Mahindra Xylo gets a makeover, but under the new skin is also a new powerplant and added luxury for buyers of every budget!

With distinct demarcations in markets, the bottom end D2 and D4 variants are powered by a 2489cc mDI CRDe oil burner churning out 94PS of power. Needless to say, these variants are bare bones in terms of features and will find a plethora of buyers in transport fleets. Step slightly higher and the E4 and E8 variants use the 2.5-litre mEagle powerplant which used to also be the flagship of the old Xylo range. Making its debut in the MUV space with the new Xylo E9 though is the mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine that puts out about 120PS of power.

New Mahindra Xylo review

The E9 is the new top-of-the-line Xylo and introduces quite a few luxuries to owners including a superiorly handy Voice Command Technology that not only controls audio controls but also operates basic vehicle functions such as the headlights, wipers, central locking, etc – a first in the auto industry.

Of course this variant also comes with goodies like a two-tone dash, glossy wood inserts, Italian leather upholstery and all the other delights that the Xylo has always been known for. Our favourite still remains the near-flat bed folding seating and the fold-away snack trays though! Go ahead, pick your variant from the five on offer between Rs 7.37 lakh and Rs 10.25 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

Xylo is fantastic overall package. As a user i can say that it has improved a lot from previous one. Its fun to drive, good power Mhawk engine and good efficiency I get about 15 kmpl overall. With cruise control on - on highways it reaches to over 18kmpl. Its my experience as an user. Over all its good one.
