We take a first look at the new Hero Xtreme 200 S that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The new motorcycles is powered by a 200cc motor and will rival the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar 200AS

Hero Xtreme 200 S

Hero MotoCorp surprised everyone as it unveiled the new Xtreme 200 S at the 2016 Auto Expo. What makes the new motorcycle special is the fact that it is the most powerful naked Hero motorcycle yet. Given that performance bikes especially between 150-200cc has seen a huge rise in demand, the Xtreme 200 S is Hero’s attempt in tapping into this market. In terms of styling, the new motorcycle maintains the Xtreme styling DNA. It adopts sharp and edgy lines to stand it apart from competition. The large headlamp with integrated DRL’s look good while the beefy fuel tank extensions add a dose of muscle to the overall styling. The multi-spoke wheels get draped in bright red shade and so does the tyre hugger. Even the saddle gets a dual tone finish which is unique. The overall styling of the Hero Xtreme 200 S is muscular and edgy which should appeal to many buyers.

Hero has equipped the Xtreme 200S with a 4-stroke 200cc engine which is an all new powerpant. The bike delivers a maximum power of 18.6PS at 8,500 rpm and maximum torque of 17.2Nm at 6,000 rpm. The above numbers are rather disappointing for a 200cc motor as it rivals have better power and torque figures. We expect Hero to tune the engine further to extract more juice before it hits production. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Hero Xtreme 200 S is built on the strong diamond type chassis which should endow it with decent riding dynamics. The bike runs on 17-inch dia wheels which are wrapped with fat tyres. It is also the first sub-200cc Hero MotoCorp offering to sport a monoshock suspension setup while telescopic forks have been used at the front. The bike employs disc brakes on both the ends to handle braking duties. The Hero Xtreme 200 S will also be the first motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp to be offered with optional ABS. Hero hasn’t revealed any launch date yet but sadly said the Xtreme 200 S will not hit production before 2017. Expect the Hero Xtreme 200 S to be priced around Rs 1 lakh mark when it makes to production.
