Teams up with time-honoured Milanese coachbuilder Zagato to create an exciting and emotionally charged coupe that was recently showcased for the very first time at the one of the world's most exclusive classic car and motorcycles event held annually at Milan, Italy

Its body has been built entirely by hand

German engineering backed by the finesse of traditional Italian automotive design could never have procured such a potent mix. In a rare showcase of talent, absolute tradition and many hours of skilled hand-craftsmanship, Italian coachbuilders Zagato paired up with BMW to create a one-off model that not only graced one of the most prestigious vintage and classic car events on the globe, but also proved to be a crowd puller beyond comparison.

The world premiere of the one of a kind BMW Zagato Coupé at the 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este was particularly significant, considering the fact that the Concorso began altogether as a get-together of coachbuilders presenting one-off hand-built creations, and the BMW Zagato Coupé followed very much in that tradition.

Having walked away with top honours at the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Awards in both 2010 and 2011, the Zagato team, and Chief Designer Norihiko Harada in particular has a strong association with the almost century old vintage and classic automobile event, and his camaraderie with Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice-President BMW Group Design stretches back many years.

Gleaming chrome z(s) are also used on the visible side of the octagons

It was this special bond, and moreover their mutual respect for each other’s fine work that ultimately led to this collaboration and it wasn’t long before the decision was made to build a car at Zagato that ultimately drives the excellence of both companies, their passion for cars.

After a gap of almost sixty years BMW had the opportunity to re-establish a connection with the Rivolta family. As a matter of fact Marella Rivolta, wife of Andrea Zagato, is Zagato Art Director and responsible of BMW Coupé Zagato trim and colours.
