Possibly the price segment where the action is getting even more intense and with the quarter litre two-wheelers increasing, the competition is getting even tougher.

Hyosung GT250R

Expected: mid-2012 Price: Rs. 2-2.2 lakh

Garware Motors is resilient and determined to take its partnership with Hyosung to a newer level. Despite suffering a setback from Kawasaki Ninja 650R’s exceptional pricing, the alliance is firmly holding its ground and has plans to introduce impressive new models. Next in line is the Hyosung GT250R, a racy 250cc version of the bigger GT650R, with identical styling but a small capacity Vee-twin motor and lower spec components with a highly competitive pricing in order to fight in the growing 250cc segment in India. Expected to be launched sometime in mid-2012, the Hyosung GT250R will enter at a very crucial time with the new Pulsar and the KTM 200 already vying for attention in this segment. The Hyosung GT250R will certainly have the benefit of one extra cylinder over its competition baring the Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

Hyosug GT250N

2012 GT250N

Expected: mid-2012 Price: Rs. 1.7-1.9 lakh

Similar to its strategy of introducing the GT650 twins of R (with fairing) and N (without fairing), respectively, the same line of thought will also follow on the GT250, with a naked and more affordable version of the GT250R making its entry into the Indian market sometime next year. Identical to the Hyosung GT650, the GT250 too will be considerably cheaper than its racier sibling and hence will fall in a very enticing price bracket where it will have to slug it out with some equally convincing and in fact, already established players like the new Bajaj Pulsar and the Honda CBR250R.

Hyosung GV250

Expected: mid-2012 Price: Rs. 2.1-2.3 lakh

The joint venture between Korean bike-maker Hyosung in accordance with Garware Motors has begun to find it’s sure-footing in the Indian premium two-wheeler space with the firm recording consistent sales every month despite undersized yet stiff competition coming its way in the 600cc segment. With already two significant products in its kitty, the Garware Motors-Hyosung coalition will soon launch its 250cc models in India in 2012 as part of the company’s top-down strategy. Apart from the racy GT250R and the naked GT250N, the firm has confirmed that they will also bring in their cruiser motorcycle – the GV250 at a competitive pricing.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500

Expected: mid-2012 Price: Rs. 1.6-1.9 lakh

A project which has been in the pipeline for a while now, the new Thunderbird 500 will soon be out in the Royal Enfield dealerships within the first quarter of 2012. Powered by the same UCE 500cc mill that propels the Classic 500, the added grunt will certainly help increase the Thunderbird’s cruiser charm and character to a huge extent. Already a popular model from the Royal Enfield portfolio, the Thunderbird has been hugely responsible for helping Royal Enfield establish its ‘Trip’ identity and amass respectable numbers in recent times. The soon-to-be launched 500 iteration of the Thunderbird will definitely be more expensive than the current model, which is powered by the 350cc motor, but the new model will also see a host of other improvements and tweaks to match the increased power and performance.
