Toyota Kirloskar Motor has finally launched the Etios LIVA hatchback in India. It’s been quite a journey for the car which was first showcased to the Indian audience at the 2010 Auto Expo held in Delhi. Now with the wait finally over, prospective customers and enthusiasts can finally see what the car has to offer.

The Etios LIVA is essentially the hatchback version of its sedan sibling, namely the Etios. Both share a similar design (Read : Design and Style>), albeit with the LIVA having a hatch instead of a boot. Having said that, the LIVA actually looks more complete and the treatment to the rear is commendable. Interior trim levels are shared between the hatch and the sedan; however the real difference lies under the hood.

Powering the Etios LIVA is a 1197cc petrol unit that delivers 80 PS at 5600 rpm and generates a decent 104Nm of torque at 3100 rpm. Mated to a five speed gearbox, the engine (Read :Engine & Transmission>) has been tuned to offer exceptional mileage with an ARAI claimed of 18.31 kilometers to the litre. In real world conditions expect this number to drop, however the car should still offer a rather frugal figure.

Slotted to compete against established players such as the MSIL Swift, Ford Figo, Hyundai i20, Nissan Micra, Tata Indica Vista, VW Polo and the Fiat Grande Punto, the LIVA surely has its work cut out and only time will tell if Toyota’s small car gamble in the Indian market will pay off. The car will be available in five trim versions, namely the J, G, G (option) V, and VX, which are priced as follows:

Toyota Etios LIVA J

Toyota Etios LIVA G

Toyota Etios LIVA G (optional)

Toyota Etios LIVA V

Toyota Etios LIVA VX

If TOYOTA does not change the liva's interior immediately the model will sink in the market

Toyota Being the worlds Largest Car Manufacturer, Of Course this is the best car in its segment. Offer ABS+EBD where competitors cannot offer for the same price. Everything is good except that Cheap Door Sound.

I would have preferred Automatic Gears, which is more convenient and trouble free drive.

Toyota should start entry model with power steering, even if cost 20 -25 K more ? In it's zeal to match competition it offered base model with power steering.

I saw LIVA on T V it looks very good from outside but inside looks not good, features like upholstry, dashboard, door color combination etc. looks not so impressive but leg space between rear seat and front seat is good.

Toyota is playing the price card. Have to see if it succeeds with lower priced variants without even the basic equipment levels. Also on road mileage figures is a question as it is a big sized hatch
