Based on the Thunderbird Storm, the LT takes Harley Davidson head on in the rapidly growing premium cruiser segment

Triumph Thunderbird LT

Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Thunderbird LT (Light Touring) at Rs 15.75 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. This strengthens their Cruiser range to three products – the Thunderbird Storm and Rocket III being the other two.

The styling of the Triumph Thunderbird LT is akin to that of a typical cruiser with loads of chrome, large fuel tank, swept back handlebar, wire-spoke wheels, white wall tyres and leather seats. Other features on the 2014 Thunderbird LT include a triple headlamp, quick-release windshield and removable leather saddlebags along with skid plates and an adjustable chrome heel/toe gear lever. The white walled tyres have been developed with Avon. Interesting bits about the Thunderbird LT is that keeping long distance cruising in mind, the seats have more cushioning than the Storm, 30 mm more of it and it gets longer stroke suspension (109mm more) with higher rate rear springs.

Powering the Triumph Thunderbird is the same 1,699cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor as found in the Thunderbird Storm. It churns out 94PS at 5,400rpm and peak torque of 151Nm at 3,550rpm. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 22-litres and weighs 339kg. The Triumph Thunderbird LT will rival the Harley-Davidson Fatboy in our two-wheeler market. Triumph has already opened eight sales and service outlets in India. The British Bikemaker plans to open two more by November, one each in Chandigarh and Kolkata.
