Triumph launches 2015 Tiger 800 XRx & XCx in India

The two new variants of Triumph's bestselling adventure bike have been launched at Rs 11.6 lakh and Rs 12.7 lakh respectively. The existing Tiger 800 XC will be phased out but the larger Tiger Explorer XC will continue to exist in Triumph India's product lineup

Triumph Tiger XRx and XCx launch

Triumph Motorcycles India have launched the 2015 Tiger 800 XRx and XCx – the  XRx will retail at Rs 11.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) while the XCx will cost Rs 12.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With these two new variants, Triumph now has 13 models on offer in the Indian market, ranging from the Classics, Roadsters, Cruisers, Supersports and Adventure bikes.

The new Tigers will be assembled at Triumph's plant in Manesar, Haryana. It's only the second CKD facility for Triumph after one in Brazil. A base model Tiger 800 XR will also be launched at a later stage at Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the current Tiger 800 XC will be phased out.

Both the XRx and XCx variants are powered by the same four stroke, in-line three-cylinder 800cc engine which makes 95PS of power and 79Nm of torque. Triumph says the engine has been tuned for more efficiency and it now also uses parts from the Daytona 675 supersport bike.

Visually, what sets the two variants apart is the presence of a prominent ‘beak’ on the XCx and larger spoked front wheel giving it more height. The XRx model is more road oriented and feature light-weight cast aluminium wheels, 17 inch at the rear and 19-inch at the front. The XC, on the other hand, has spoked wheels for better durability on rough terrain and comes with 17 inch rear wheel and an off-road oriented 21-inch front wheel. Suspension systems on both bikes are also different. The XRx features Showa suspension while the XCx is kitted out with WP suspension, with more travel to boost the bike’s off-road credentials.

The new Tiger 800 variants feature a host of rider focussed technology - ride-by-wire throttle system with traction control and switchable ABS as standard features.  In the international market, the new Tigers come in four different trims, but for India, there will only be the top-of-the-line XRx and XCx variants to start of with, featuring four different throttle maps – Rain, Road, Sport and Off-Road. Additionally, there are three Riding Modes as well – Road, Off Road and Programmable Rider Mode. The base XR model will also be launched in India at a later stage.

Triumph’s Traction Control System is also available on the XRx and XCx in three different settings – Road, Off Road and Off, allowing more versatility to experienced riders to configure the traction control preferences in conjunction with the three Riding Mode settings. And for ease of riding long hours on open highways, cruise control is also standard on the new Tigers. Moreover, Triumph is also planning to introduce a base variant of the XR which too will come to India via the CKD route and is expected to be priced at around Rs 10.5 lakh. All the three Tiger models will be CKDs and will be assembled at their facility at Manesar.
