Tata Indica eV2

The first generation Tata Indica (now badged the ‘eV2’) that been around for 14 years has been given yet another facelift. The facelift consists of a new front fascia that is identical to the current Tata Indigo eCS, changes include new headlights, a new grille and a new air dam at the lower section of the bumper. All of the new equipment is already being used on the Indigo eCS compact sedan.

Other changes to the facelifted car include Auto-Drive-Assist, Clutch-to-Start refreshed interiors, a sticker job, new alloy wheels, front and rear fog lamps, a rear spoiler with an integrated stop lamp and two new colour options – Sea Blue and Spicy Red.

The Auto-Drive-Assist system ensures that the engine does not cut out while scaling an uphill gradient even if the driver’s foot is off the accelerator pedal while the Clutch-to-Start features makes sure that the engine is not cranked without depressing the clutch pedal, thereby ensuring that the engine is not cranked while it is running.

The interiors of the Tata Indica eV2 is now subjected to shadow beige upholstery and a faux wood centre console in the top of then line LX trim. The Indica eV2 LX now also gets power windows and a stereo with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The popular diesel variants of the facelifted Indica eV2 are powered by the same 1.4 litre CR4 Common Rail Diesel engine that develops 70PS of power and 140Nm of torque. Tata claim that the eV2 comes with improvements in gear ratios and that all of the140Nm of torque is now available from 1800 rpm to 3000 rpm. Tata has also slashed 10 kgs off the kerb weight of the car. The diesel Indica eV2 is available in four trim levels, namely L, LE, LS and LX.

Prices for the diesel powered versions of the facelifted Indica eV2 range between Rs. 4,01,162 and Rs. Rs.4,87,619 (ex-showroom, Delhi). As of now Tata Motors Finance has an offer running that requires customers to make a down payment of just Rs. 50,000 which includes Road Tax, Registration and Insurance.

The Tata Indica eV2 is still the most affordable diesel passenger car in the Indian car market, its affordability and fuel efficiency give it an edge over its immediate competition. And the facelifted version takes the value-for-money proposition up a notch.
