Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG launched at Rs 1.26 crore

The most anticipated roadster from Mercedes-Benz - the SLK 55 AMG has been launched in India at a price of Rs 1.26 crore (ex-showroom Delhi)

Mercedes brings forth the stunninng SLK 55 AMG, the high-performance version of the SLK hardtop convertible. Following the launch of the BMW Z4 mid-november, this is the second roadster to be launched in India in the past one month.  

 

As the name suggests, the ‘55’ of the ‘SLK 55’ comes from a potent 5.5-litre V8 engine that churns out 310PS of power and 540Nm of torque. The roadster can touch the 100km/h marker from standstil in just 4.6 seconds and claims to have a mileage of 11.9kmpl and a top speed of 250km/hr. The rear-wheel driven SLK55 also gets the AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic Plus automatic with three transmission modes, namely - Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual.

 

On the outside, the SLK 55 has MAGIC SKY Control that offers panoramic vario-roof with variable technology, an intelligent light system with bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, headlamp cleaning system, LED tail lights, windscreen wipers with rain sensors, roll-over bars with aluminum inlay, AMG bodystyling, AMG radiator grille, AMG spoiler, AMG sports exhaust, 18-inch AMG 10-spoke light alloy-wheel, headlamps with dark surrounds and dark tinted taillights.

On the inside, the SLK 55 AMG has transparent pivoting draught-stop Air guide, AIRSCARF neck-level heating system, electrically adjustable steering column and exterior mirrors, heated seats, SOLAR red ambient lighting, power steering, sports shift, interior, automatic child seat recognition,  THERMOTRONIC 2-zone automatic climate control, sports pedal cluster with rubber studs, lockable glove compartment, boot lighting, smokers package and white LED illuminated AMG door sill.  

 

The SLK 55 AMG is expected to give tough competition to cars like Porsche Cayman S, BMW Z4, Audi TT, Jaguar F-Type and the Audi R8. The car can also be customised as per your demands, based on which it can take around 4 months for Mercedes to build and deliver it to you. A minimum amount of Rs 22 lakh has to be made to book the SLK 55 AMG. This amount will be non-refundable in case of cancellation.

 

Speaking of launches, Mercedes India is slated to bring the ML63, GL63 and G65 SUVs to Indian shores, which will soon be followed by the CL63, CL65 and the CLS63 saloons. The new SLS GT series can also be expected sometime next year in both coupe and cabriolet forms. The two big launches in 2014 for Mercedes-Benz, the CLA saloon and the GLA SUV, will also be followed closely by their respective AMG models, the CLA45 and the GLA45. Apart from the SLK 55 AMG, Mercedes currently offers the following AMG models in India - the C63, the newly launched E63, the G63 SUV the SLS AMG in both coupe and cabriolet form.
