Mercedes' new S-Class take the uber-luxury battle to a whole new level with its all-new S500

New Mercedes S-Class front

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the all-new S-Class today in India at Rs 1.57 Crore ex-showroom Delhi. The new S-Class will be available in only one trim at the launch, the S500. The car will be sold as a CBU initially and the locally assembled version will follow in a few months. 125 units of the new S-Class launch batch have already been booked.

This new W222 series S-Class looks similar to the now defunct Maybach brand. This is Mercedes’ way of saying that with this new car, it doesn’t need a more luxurious brand/car and rightly so. The S-Class has the best there is in series production cars. There is not a single light bulb on this car. Instead, Mercedes has used only LEDs in its lighting systems. The driver’s seat is infinitely adjustable and all the passengers too can find their right travelling position and use six different 15 minute massage settings while they are at it. The S500 is equipped with a 24 speaker 1540 Watt Burmester 3D surround sound system.

The S-Class is as much about pampering luxury as it is about performance. Powering the S500 is a 4.6-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine dishing out 469PS of peak power and 700Nm of peak torque.

Of all the high tech gadgetry, Mercedes has a radar system that analyses road conditions and adjusts damper settings for a magic carpet ride. Unfortunately, this system won’t make it to India as the Indian government doesn’t allow civilians to use radar systems. It gets highly comforting air-suspension though as standard.
