Hot 567PS M5 gets a minor update for the year but no competition package

New BMW M5

BMW has introduced the refreshed M5 in India in a week that will see two new M cars (M3 and M4) added to the Bavarian carmaker’s India lineup. The new M5 is a minor update to the seriously quick sedan to get the model in line with M-Division’s global production as the M5 is a CBU. The new 2014 M5 is priced at Rs 1.35 crore, ex-showroom.  BMW hasn’t got the slightly more powerful, 15PS to be precise, and a bit more track focused 'competition package' to India though, the car we drove earlier this year in Germany.

The update is subtle enough to miss. A new set of seven twin-spoke alloys and a slightly revised taillight is what we can spot. There’s also a M5 badge on the signature kidney grille now and new adaptive LED headlights is part of standard equipment for the India bound M5. The interior gets more storage and a splash of chrome.

Under the hood is the same 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine quick enough to belt out a 0-100kmph time of 4.3 seconds. It produces 567PS of peak power between 6000-7000rpm and 680Nm of peak torque between 1500-5750rpm. The M5 will take on the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG in the performance sedan battle.
