Mercedes-Benz C and E-Class Sport Editions

Aiming to invest in the high tech world of F1 Grand Prix racing and seeming to make its link to the performance packed sport filter thru to its bread and butter offerings, Mercedes-Benz India has very smartly released two sportily packaged versions of its best selling C- and E-Class cars today. Timed virtually to go on sale on the eve of the second Indian F1 Grand Prix due to be held at the end of this month, the C220 CDI Sport Edition and the E220CDI Sport Edition feature all new body kits from the AMG parts bin and these have been incorporated in a tasteful manner to up the adrenalin quotient of the three-pointed star.

Interestingly, the product planners at Mercedes-Benz India have used good logic to get the base 220CDI offerings as the foundation of the sporty new offerings which comprise of all new front and rear bumper aprons, side skirts and larger light-alloy wheels to deliver a dazzling visual appeal. All of these exterior add-ons come from the AMG body pack and they have been well integrated to deliver that factory-fitted original equipment feel. The marketing team at Mercedes-Benz had deduced that many punters didn’t want to go the whole AMG route with frightfully powerful mega engines and suspension bits to match but were content to hype up the ante just with the exciting body add-ons from AMG. Obviously this was a simple thought process with the added allure of being a price positive one as well.

The C220 CDI Sports Edition now rides on 17-inch alloys while the E220CDI Sports Edition goes an inch higher in diameter. Both cars come finished in Merc’s polar white body shade with a black painted roof and feature a Sport logo on the rear boot lid.

Both cars get an enhanced interior with new trim and bits and pieces but what is impressive is that the punchy engine coupled to the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission comes with the Eco Start-Stop as OE along with other tech dainties like the agility control suspension and cruise control. Of course, both Sport Edition models are packed to the gills with Mercedes-Benz’ vast array of safety and convenience features and if anyone thinks that these are special edition models then the answer is even more pleasing.

They are not special limited editions but regular variant offerings which would now be in place in the C- and E-Class portfolios. For the record, the cars go on sale from today with the C-Class Sport Edition priced at Rs 29.9 lakhs while the E-Class Sport Edition can be had for Rs 39.9 lakhs, both prices ex-showroom Delhi.
