The CNG Celerio will be available only in the mid-spec VXI trim

Maruti Celerio

Maruti has quietly launched a CNG equipped version of the Celerio. As per the company’s website, the Celerio Green, as Maruti terms its CNG variants, is priced at Rs 4.68 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi and is only available in VXi trim.

The CNG Celerio will be powered by the same K-series 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine developing 68PS of power in petrol mode. In CNG mode, it should develop around 59PS. The VXi trim gets a split-folding rear seat, power windows, central locking, day-night inside rear view mirrors and 14 inch wheels. The VXi doesn’t get any safety equipment like ABS and airbags.

The Celerio was launched at the Indian Auto Expo in February 2014. After the excise cuts in the coming weeks its prices were reduced to a starting price of Rs 3.76 lakh and the top-end Celerio is priced at Rs 4.78 lakh. Maruti also introduced the automated manual gearbox with the Celerio. This AMT is the most affordable automatic on sale in India by a huge margin and has caught the fancy of the urban Indian commuter with over 50 percent of the Celerio’s customers going for it. The CNG Celerio will further help Maruti expand the Celerio’s reach in major cities with CNG fuelling stations. The company does not reveal yet if the CNG will come with the AMT. As of now it is only available with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
