Honda has finally stepped in the league of the mass market buyer with the Honda Brio starting at Rs. 3.95 lakhs and going up to Rs. 5.10 Lakhs . Powered by the same 1.2 liter i-VTEC engine as that in the Jazz with Variable Valve timing, however, slightly de-tuned to 88 PS to deliver a better fuel efficiency of 18.4 kiloneters to a liter as per Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The front and the rear suspension come with a McPherson Strut and Torsion Beam respectively. The 175/65 section tyres are coupled with alloys on the top-end variant, full wheel covers on the SMT and SMT option versions and silver steel wheels with centre hub caps on the base.

The interior is spacious and offers a number of storage spaces and cubbie holes to fit in anything throughout the cabin. Steering mounted controls are there on all models but the base. However, central locking and immobilizer is standard across all variants and ABS with EBD and SRS Airbags are on the top end and SMT option variant. Driver seat belt reminder is standard across all versions, however, the three point ELR with Pretensioner and Load Limiter is available only on the option SMT and VMT versions and so does the Tilt Steering. All models get Electronic Power Steering, front power windows, headlight off and ignition key off reminder and average fuel consumption display.

On the occasion, Mr. Takashi Nagai, President and CEO, Honda Siel Cars India said, "We have been able to launch the Brio at a competitive price due to our efforts to control costs, maximise production efficiencies and minimize impacts of currency fluctuations. And this we have achieved through pure localization by using parts being manufactured locally." Currently, Honda has 135 dealerships across 83 cities across the country and will go up 143 dealerships in 91 cities by the end of the current fiscal year.

The Honda Brio comes with a two year or 40000 kilometers warranty as standard and is available in six exciting colours. The Brio would be competing against the Toyota Etios LIVA, The Hyundai i10, The Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Ford Figo and the Chevrolet Beat.

The Brio is available in four trim versions and is priced as :

EMT: Rs.3.95 Lakhs
SMT: Rs.4.35 Lakhs
S(O)MT: Rs.4.90 Lakhs
VMT:  Rs.5.10  Lakhs

*All prices are ex-showroom Delhi

Hey, this car looks great. 4 lacs entry price seems superb. it should smash wagon R , I10 , fabia , VW polo , figo , beat and the likes. Japan boys are now rulling with brio and liva. But the rider is that the last few models being civic hybrid, city, jazz saw considerable price drops and with this pricing, trust a drop in price may not be possible. But overall the hatch back war has begun, lets see how many cars survive. .........
