Harley-Davidson, the world renowned bike builder from America, launched its latest model, Fat Bob, today. Priced at Rs 12.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Fat Bob joins the Dyna family of motorcycles, which are completely knocked-down models (CKD). With that, the count of bikes in the Dyna segment has risen to six.
Anoop Prakash, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India, said, "The launch of the Fat Bob as CKD will allow more customers to experience our Dyna range at an attractive price point. At Harley-Davidson India, we will continue to adopt and invest in strategies that make our products and ownership experience accessible to more enthusiasts and customers in India,"
The basic design of the bike is like any other Harley, but the details that distinguish it are the forward-mounted foot controls, double headlamps, a drag-style handlebar, meaty front tyre and a sleek, two-up seat, which all add up to give the Fat Bob a mean and aggressive stance.
The bike is powered by a 1690cc, air-cooled, Twin Cam103 V-twin engine, which is mated to a six-speed transmission. The V-twin is capable of producing a meaty 135.6Nm of torque at 3500rpm. To highlight its touring nature, an 18.8-litre hand crafted fuel tank is employed on the bike. Further adding to the appeal is a Tommy Gun exhaust that produces a thundering exhaust note.
Harley’s commitment to India, which it considers a vital, upcoming market, can be gauged from the fact that they have already set up an assembly plant in Balal, Haryana. The company will also be expanding its current nine-dealer network with its 10th showroom opening in Goa by the end of the year and further three showrooms slated to open in Jaipur, Indore and Pune by 2013. Harley-Davidson reported strong sales in 2011, managing around 1,000 units and expects the numbers to further improve in 2012. The Fat Bob will join Harley’s already impressive line-up for India which includes bikes from the Sportster, Dyna, Softail, V Rod, Touring and CVO model range.
