BMW Motorrad expanded its Indian portfolio by quietly launching the R nineT cafe racer. The R nineT was launched to commemorate and celebrate the German brand completing 90 years in the two-wheeler industry and has been inspired from the BMW R 90S from the 1970’s era. The styling of the R nineT can be described as a combination of a modern streetbike and a classic cafe racer.Retro details on the bike include spoke wheels, round headlamp; analogue clocks while it has modern bits like USD front forks, Akrapovic sourced dual upset mufflers and hand brushed aluminium intake ducts, fork yokes and handle bar clamp. An interesting feature of the bike is its removable pillion frame, which enables the rider to ride it as a dual-seater, fit the aluminium cowl to make it a single-seater or completely remove the rear part of the seat to run as a solo-seater.
Powering the BMW R nineT is a 1,170cc, flat-twin, Boxer motor churning out 111.5PS at 7,500rpm and peak torque of 119Nm at 6,000rpm. The engine is mate to a six-speed gearbox that transmits power to the rear wheel via a characteristic shaft drive system. The BMW R nineT employs a tubular steel frame that is suspended on 46mmUpside-Down telescopic fork at front and the rear suspension has the paralever single-sided swingarm. Stopping power is provided by 320mm dual disc brakes at front and 265mm disc brakes at rear whereas ABS is standard. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 22-litre and it tips the scale at 222kg.
