Baja Auto expanded its Indian portfolio as it launched the new Bajaj Pulsar AS200 and AS150 in India where the AS stands for Adventure Sports. The Bajaj Pulsar AS200 has been priced at Rs 91,550 whereas the new Bajaj Pulsar AS150 will retail for Rs 79,500 (both prices are ex-showroom Delhi and introductory). The Bajaj Pulsar AS200 will be the third 200cc Pulsar offering after the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS and the Pulsar RS200 which has been tagged as the fastest Pulsar yet and was launched recently. (Bajaj Pulsar RS200 special coverage). Both the motorcycles have been labelled as Adventure Sports bikes by Bajaj.

Bajaj Pulsar AS200

The Bajaj Pulsar AS200 is not an entirely new motorcycle and is based on the Pulsar 200NS. The Bajaj Pulsar AS200 sports a quarter fairing and projector lamps (segment first) similar to the popular Pulsar 220. Bajaj will hoping to get more takers for the new adventure tourer styled Pulsar AS200, than the naked street biker version - Bajaj Pulsar 200NS which has received lukewarm response in India so far. Powering the Bajaj Pulsar AS200 will be the same motor as seen on the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS street bike. The 199.5cc, liquid-cooled motor churns out 23.5PS of peak power and 18.3Nm of maximum torque. It wouldn’t be offered with optional ABS similar to the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar RS200 to keep cost low. The engine will transfer power to the rear-wheel via 6-speed gearbox as seen on its other 200cc siblings.

Bajaj Pulsar AS150

The styling of the Bajaj Pulsar AS150 is similar to that of its elder sibling with a quarter fairing. The Bajaj Pulsar AS150 will be the first offering from the next generation Pulsar 150 family which has started to show its age cosmetically and mechanically. Powering the bike will be a new 149.5cc, single-cylinder motor producing 17PS at 9,500rpm which makes the new Bajaj Pulsar AS150 2PS more powerful than its predecessor. The powerplant is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and the engine will be equipped with 4-valves. The Bajaj Pulsar AS150 will get electric start and kick start as cranking options.

Switch gear and the part-analogue-part-digital instrument console have been carried forward from its 200cc sibling. The Bajaj Pulsar AS150 employs telescopic forks at front and a monoshock setup at the back. Braking is done by a disc brake at front and drum brake at rear. Bajaj will be banking heavily on its next generation range of Pulsar motorcycles to revive its sales as the company posted a drop of 22 per cent in sales for March 2015. We will soon ride the motorcycles soon, watch this space for the upcoming review of the Bajaj Pulsar AS200 and the Pulsar AS150.
