Audi has launched the updated Q5 for the 2013 model year in India with prices starting at Rs. 43.16 lakh for the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol model, the 2.0-litre TDI diesel Q5 has been priced at Rs. 43.47 lakh and the 3.0-litre TDI diesel Q5 has been priced at Rs. 48.71 lakh (all prices are indicative of ex-showroom, New Delhi). The midlife makeover for the Q5 has given the SUV cosmetic tweaks on the outside, subtle interior changes and the engines have been tweaked to deliver more powerful and efficiency.
“After the overwhelming response to our Q range SUV line-up, it is but logical, to introduce the new version of the Audi Q5 in India – land of quattro. There are a host of design and mechanical changes that strongly accentuate the sporty and distinctive off road character of the Audi Q5. The new Audi Q5 exhibits great talent for everyday driving and recreation…This new SUV will not only wow the Audi fans with its innovations but will also help us in consolidating our leadership position in the luxury SUV segment.” said Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India.
On the outside, the 2013 Audi Q5 gets a new single-frame grille, a new front bumper with chrome surrounds for the fog lamps, a flatter roofline, a bonnet made of aluminium and featuring more powerfully contoured lines and xenon headlamps with daytime running LEDs as well as LED tail lamps. The tail gate is also made of aluminium and the twin tail pipes are now flat bottomed and located at either ends of the rear bumper.
Inside, the 2013 Audi Q5 gets a new 4-spoke leather multi-function steering wheel, the controls on the dash are finished in chrome, and the inner facia of the infotainment system and AC controls are now finished in high gloss black. Audi is offering a choice of two interior colours – beige and black for the Milano leather that upholsters the cabin.

Audi has also worked on the three powertrain options for the Q5, which has helped them develop higher power output and improve fuel efficiency by up to 15 per cent. The power output for the turbocharged direct injection diesel and petrol engines range from 179PS to 248PS of power. Engine options include a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, a 3.0-litre TDI diesel engine and a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine. ARAI figures indicate that the 2.0 litre TDI engine returns a mileage of 14.6 kilometres to the litre.
Other changes in the 2013 Audi Q5 include a new electromechanical steering to provide better driver feedback as well as improve efficiency. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) now detects the road surface and adjusts emergency braking force accordingly.
As expected, all 2013 Q5s are armed with Audi’s legendary quattro permanent four-wheel drive system with self-locking centre differential and torque vectoring as standard. Like the earlier Q5s, the new one too will come loaded with a host of gizmos and safety features to pamper and protect its occupants.
The Audi Q5 will continue to rival the Mercedes-Benz M Class, BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and the Land Rover Freelander in our market.
