The new MSIL Swift embodies everything you pined for in the earlier model. Priced between 4.22 - 5.53 lakhs for the petrol version and 5.17 - 6.38 lakhs for the diesel version, the new Swift is a classic representation of a modern-day hatchback with all the capabilities and technologies that will give you a wonderful drive experience, while ensuring your safety and comfort

It was just a matter of time that Maruti Suzuki India brought the latest international version of its globally successful Swift model to India. After our first glimpse of the longer and trendier version of the car at the Paris Motor Show last year, it’s taken the Japanese car maker a while to bring this new version to India.

But, better late than never, the new 2011 MSIL Swift has finally been launched here in India, and it doesn’t just look better on the outside, thanks to its longer frame and the new headlights and taillights that flutter a stretched look, but also its interiors have received a applause worthy upgrade with features that include a CD player, USB port connectivity, steering mounted controls and an in dash multi information display (MID), all of which presents itself with a far more upmarket feel. However, the absence of a Bluetooth interface will be sorely missed on this new car.

Where the engines of the new petrol and diesel versions are concerned, the 2011 MSIL Swift retains the engines from the outgoing Swift model. However with Variable Valve Timing now on the 1197cc petrol engine, it manages to generate 87PS @ 6000 rpm and a decent torque of 114Nm at 4000 rpm.

The 1248cc DDiS diesel mill remains the same and offers a stellar 75PS @ 4000 rpm and a more than decent torque of 190Nm @ 2000 rpm. Both versions are mated to 5 speed gearboxes that incidentally are different from the outgoing version’s transmission and these new boxes offer smoother gear transitions.

Another significant change in the 2011 MSIL Swift in the increase in the tyre size, where the lower range models get 165/80 R14 tyres, which still look decent. However an upgrade to a 15 inch is always recommended.

All in all, both the petrol and diesel versions of this car are something to truly look out for, especially if you have been a loyal Swift customer, hoping the new version will be worth waiting for. Priced between 4.22 - 5.53 lakhs for the petrol version and 5.17 - 6.38 lakhs for the diesel version, the new 2011 MSIL Swift  is now available at Maruti Suzuki outlets pan India.
