Yamaha Indonesia has released a teaser image indicating that the Yamaha YZF-R25 will be launched on May 20 in the Indonesian market. The 250cc bike has generated immense interest among Southeast Asian two-wheeler enthusiasts ever since the concept bike was unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor. The concept bike was also showcased during the 2014 Auto Expo and generated a lot of curiosity among Indian motorcycle aficionados.

Spy shots of the Yamaha YZF-R25 were going viral on the internet last month, when the bike was caught testing in Indonesia, where it will be eventually manufactured. From the pictures it is clear that the R25 will be based on a tubular frame, complete with full-fairing, rear-set footpegs and clip-on handlebar that will translate into a sporty riding posture. In terms of design, the bike will feature twin headlights similar to the Yamaha R15, but with integrated indicators and a compact and sharp tail, akin to supersport motorcycles that should appeal to the youngsters.

Powering the bike is a 250cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor churning out a reported 34PS of power. According to our sources, a pre-production model of the Yamaha YZF-R25 has already landed on our shores for testing and R & D purpose. Which means that in all likely, the YZF-R25 will be launched in our market by end of the year or early 2015. One of the main hurdle for Yamaha will be the R25’s pricing, since the bike is powered by a parallel-twin motor like the Suzuki Inazuma or the erstwhile Kawasaki Ninja 250R expect it to be priced at a premium unlike the Honda CBR 250R that is powered by a single-cylinder mill. There were rumours that the Japanese two-wheeler giant is planning of developing a single-cylinder 250cc powerplant for the Indian market as Kawasaki recently unveiled the Ninja 250SL for the Asian market. Also Yamaha had recently copyrighted the “R3” moniker thereby indicating that it is developing a 300cc bike based on the R25 for the North American and European market.
