Yamaha had hinted that it plans to build a retro styled motorcycle based on the MT-09 streetbike. Gladly it has been true to its word and it has been confirmed that it will be building the new Yamaha XSR900. The styling of the motorcycle is similar to the Yamaha XSR700 that was showcased last year which isn’t a bad thing as the XSR700 is a gorgeous looking motorcycle. As part of the preview for the Yamaha XSR900 it had it teased a new ‘Faster Sons’ one-off, in Kenny Roberts colours and designed by Roland Sands. The XSR700 was also previewed with a special one-off that was revealed under the Faster Sons tag line. The confirmation for the Yamaha XSR900 comes from the fact that it has applied for on the name and registered a whole crop of web domains. Powering the motorcycle will be the same 850cc, three-cylinder motor as seen on the Yamaha MT-09 producing 115PS of peak power at 10,000rpm and 87.5Nm at 7,500rpm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. We will get more details on the Yamaha XR900 once its officially launched, watch this space for more details.
