Started in 2002, the Yamaha Technical Academy (YTA) plays a key role in the group's global education and training programme for motorcycle technicians to ensure world-class service that exceeds customer expectations.

YTA's content and standards of education and training programmes have been developed specifically for each country. As of 2014, there are over 4,000 YTA-trained and certified technicians in India.

Contests are held in each country under National Technician Grand Prix Title for these certified technicians. The winners then compete in the Yamaha World Technician Grand Prix held at YMC, Japan.

In India, YMIS organized the first National Technician Grand Prix in 2010 and the winners were sent to compete at the WTGP 2013 and 2014. India’s Meenakshi Sundamar Subramanian holds the first position in the 2014 WTGP for commuter class motorcycles.
