Yamaha MT-15 (M-Slaz) to debut on Dec 1, images leaked

The bike manufacturer has teased the Yamaha MT-15, which will be called the Yamaha M-Slaz in Thailand, through a video – titled ‘Slash your darkness’ – and has confirmed that the bike’s world debut will take place on the eve of the 32nd Thailand International Motor Expo 2015 on December 1. The model will then be showcased at the event between December 2 and 13.

The bike features young and dynamic decals along with sharp styling, which is highlighted by bright colours. The bike gets a new LED headlamp, new LED tail lamp, new turn indicators and switchgear clusters. The overall styling of the bike seems inspired from the lines of bigger naked motorcycles that includes the MT-25, MT-07 and the MT-09. The rear end and the swing arm design looks largely identical to the R15.

According to reports, the new Yamaha could also be powered by a 150cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor, which could be tweaked to perform better than the R15 that generates 17PS of power at 8,500rpm and 15Nm torque at 7,500rpm.

The Yamaha MT-15 gets an all-digital instrument console with backlit blue lighting. The bike gets USD front forks, which could add to its price. With heavy competition in this segment in the form of the TVS Apache RTR 160, Hero Xtreme Sports and Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 in India, it will be interesting to see what price range the new M-Slaz is slotted into. An appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo could also be on the cards for Yamaha’s latest offering.
