Vikram Mathias winner 2014 Coffe Day Rally

Vikram Mathias and co-driver Swaroop Mohan made full use of his overnight lead to emerge victorious in the 2014 Coffee Day Rally. Mathias was behind the wheel of the Mitsubishi Evo IX and the Coffee Day Rally was the sixth and concluding round of the FMSCI Indian Rally Championship for 2014. Mathias was ecstatic with his victory as he was racing with an all-wheel drive car for the first time and hardly had any time to get acquainted to the car’s dynamics.

The win was a special one for Mathias who has been off the rallying scene for the past four years. Coming home in second place was Dean Mascarenhas and Shanmuga SN in a Volkswagen Polo, while the final step on the rostrum went to Arjun Rao Aroor and Satish Rajagopal who drove the R2 variant of VW Polo.

Dean Mascarenhas

Dean Mascarenhas, hailing from Mangalore went on to win in the IRC 1600 class to stomp his authority. While newly-crowned IRC 2000 National champion Rahul Kanthraj and Vivek Bhatt topped their category in the Mitsubishi Cedia. In the FMSCI 1600 Cup it was Raghu Nandan B alongwith Suraj K who powered their Honda City V-Tec to victory.

Meanwhile, National champion Gaurav Gill and Musa Sherif, though not in contention for honours in this Rally, delighted many fans by driving the three Special Stages in the Mahindra Adventure XUV 500 on Sunday after having to retire due to mechanical problems.
