Dodge has announced that it will start production of the Challenger SRT Hellcat by third quarter of 2014. Let’s get to the point directly that has generated so much buzz around the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and that is its powerplant. The car is powered by a 6.2-litre, supercharged V8 motor pumping out an ostentatious 716PS of power and an earth moving torque rating of 881Nm. This makes the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat the most powerful stock muscle car put to production. The humungous lump of power and torque is relayed to the rear-wheels by a standard Tremec six-speed manual transmission or an optional TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The car has been equipped with pre configured drive modes Sport, Track and Default settings, while custom setting option gives the driver liberty of tailoring the performance and dynamics of the car. The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the first car under the Chrysler group to come standard with two key fobs - red and black. The black key limits the car to a sober mode as the power output is limited to “just” 500 American ponies and engages all the electronic safety aids whereas the red key unleashes the manic amount of firepower the motor has in store.
Talking about performance, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can dismiss the quarter-mile of tarmac in just 11.2 seconds on stock rubber. Anchorage is provided to the beast by the humungous 390mm disc brakes with six-piston callipers on all four-ends. The braking system work in conjunction with ABS, ESC and traction control systems for additional safety. On the inside, the driver is welcomed by a new trapezoidal shaped stamped aluminium centre console, leather-wrapped surfaces and French-seamed accent stitching.
An 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen takes care of infotainment system whereas the instrument cluster includes a neat 7-inch DID screen flanked by analogue speedometer and tachometer gauges, similar to the one found on the 1971 Challenger. The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will be limited to just 1,200 units and will carry a sticker price of Rs 36 lakh in the US market. It will accompany the likes of the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Lamborghini Aventador among the others as the top 10 most powerful production car. And, the pricing makes the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat a stupendous VFM offering in terms of power it has on tap to the asking price.
