Michael Dunlop emerged victorious in the Senior TT class of the 2014 Isle of Man. Dunlop riding aboard the BMW S1000RR registered his fourth win of the week as he had earlier won the TT Superbike, TT Superstock and TT Supersport Race 2. Race conditions were perfect and it was Tyco Suzuki rider, William Dunlop, who lead the opening stages of the race with a lead of 1.3seconds. Michael didn’t make a great start as he was in seventh position at Gelen Helen, which is the first timing point of the lap. But he was able to maintain a steady pace and this enabled to climb up the grid. By lap two, it was still William, who lead the race as the riders passed Ramsey but Michael was cutting down his lead and by the end of the lap had successfully overtaken him. His lap time of 130.628mph gave him a 0.8seconds breathing space over Cummins, Martin and Harrison; such was the contest that only three seconds separated the top five riders.

Sensing that he was under pressure for the lead, Michael Dunlop posted a blisteringly fast lap to stomp his authority. In this process, he also set a new lap record for the Senior race at 131.668mph, and now he had a 7.7seconds advantage over his rivals and headed into the pits for his first stop. Down the grid, William had edged out Martin for second as Cummins slipped back to fourth. On the third lap of the race, William Dunlop crashed out at the Les Graham Memorial, which meant Cummins and Martin moved up to second and third respectively. Michael Dunlop had extended his lead to over 13 seconds at Ramsey on fourth lap but Cummins reduced it to 9.5seconds as he posted the fastest timing in the fourth lap of the race.

The gap was further reduced on the penultimate lap to just seven seconds as Cummins was on the charge. Michael Dunlop fought back to post a scorching fast lap that saw him cross the finish line with a healthy lead of 13 seconds over Cummins in second place. Popular among the fans, Tyco Suzuki rider, Guy Martin finished on the final step of the rostrum. Even though, Michael Dunlop wasn’t able to set a new record of five wins in a year, he did set a record of becoming the first rider at the Isle of Man TT to register four wins in two consecutive years. This win in the Senior class takes his total tally of victories to 11, making him the fifth most successful racer at the iconic motorcycle event.
