Just a day separates the winner from the rest of the pack

Nissan GT Academy 2014

Nissan’s GT Academy has entered its final day at Silverstone putting participants from five countries through a grueling weak of tests to narrow down to the best driver of the lot. 27 Participants from Australia, India, Mexico, Middle East and Thailand are part of the six day GT Academy camp. The final winner will get the chance to compete in the Dubai 24 Hrs race in January 2015, and will also have the opportunity of advancing their motorsport career as a NISMO athlete.

Eliminated Indian participants include Abhinav Bhatt on the second day, Glen Ivan Suchitha on the third and Karl Patel on the fourth day. Prakash Nair was eliminated yesterday and now the Indian contingent is left with Abhinaya Bikkani and Akshay Gupta for the coveted price. Karun Chandhok has been mentoring the Indian team at the event.

The participants have gone through a number of challenges over the past week from physical tests running endurance courses to testing their skills in different types of cars. The range of cars include single seaters, the Nissan 370Z and the Nissan GT-R on track and even buggies on an off-road course.

The Indian participants are the first batch of the GT Academy here making it to the world stage. Top six contestants were picked in June to make it to Silverstone after narrowing down the list from 5,000 entries in their first edition.
