Volvo’s all-new SUV, the Volvo XC90, was launched just last month, and the Swedish carmaker promptly put up a First Edition for sale. A total of 1,927 units of the big SUV were up for grabs, exclusively online, and the carmaker claims that it sold out all the units in mere 47 hours after its release. According to Volvo, most of these units were reserved within one hour, and at its peak, seven XC90s were sold every minute.

Commenting on the sales, Alain Visser, Senior Vice-President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group, said, “We are very pleased, but not really surprised. The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world-première last week.”

The all-new Volvo XC90 First Edition comes with an Onyx Black exterior with 21-inch alloy wheels, while the interiors feature Nappa leather seats in amber, a leather-wrapped dashboard and Linear Walnut inlays. There is also a Bowers & Wilkins audio system which takes care on the entertainment front.

The First Edition Volvo XC90 are powered by four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains. The D5 twin-turbocharged diesel engine develops 225PS of power and 470Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 1,927 individually numbered cars celebrate the year Volvo was founded and for the first time in history, the company sold the cars via digital commerce. Most of the sales came from United Kingdom as the customers reserved in a total of 55 cars which will be delivered by April, 2015.
