Set to be unveiled on 18th February, images of the upcoming Volvo V90 station wagon have leaked online early on Thursday

The Volvo XC90 sits at the top of the Swedish carmaker’s international food chain right now, but it will soon be joined by the S90 sedan and V90 station wagon soon. While the S90 has already been launched in Western markets, the V90 has been slated for an unveiling on February 23rd in Stockholm, Sweden. But, as luck would have it, images of the upcoming car leaked online early on Thursday on social media sites and even a Swedish news website before they were quickly taken down.

In our first official look at the V90, it looks extremely good, and possibly one of the best-designed modern Volvo wagons ever. The wagon's styling blends the aesthetics of the S90 sedan and XC90 crossover, and all three share Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture platform. In front, this model is a dead ringer for its sedan counterpart, including the attractive Thor's Hammer headlights. However, the roof and rear have subtle design cues from the amazing Volvo Concept Estate.

In terms of specs, the V90 is basically the S90, albeit with a boot at the rear. So the powertrain options will remain the same: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Other powertrain options, including a 410PS plug-in hybrid drivetrain, will be added to the V90 lineup a little later in the production run. All models will come standard with a semi-autonomous technology called Pilot Assist that keeps the car in its lane thanks to sensors that read the lane markings.

The inside is also standard S90 fare, offering ample space for five passengers and their gear in a spacious, well-lit cabin built using upscale materials. The bulk of the wagon’s navigation, connectivity, and entertainment functions are grouped in a state-of-the-art infotainment system controlled by a large tablet-like touch screen that takes up most of the center console.

As for the pricing, we reckon the S90/V90 will be more expensive than the outgoing S80 sedan. Still, with a wagon that looks like this, who would be complaining?
