Volvo unveils new S90 at Detroit Motor Show

Volvo has showcased the much awaited premium sedan S90 at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) also known as Detroit Motor Show is one of the most well-known automotive events worldwide. Volvo Cars had picked the NAIAS event to unveil their new premium sedan, the S90. After achieving strong sales of the XC60 crossover and the new XC90 SUV in the US, Volvo aims to strengthen its footprint further with the new S90.

Volvo’s premium sedan S90 marks the second chapter after the new XC90 for the Swedish car maker’s product range. With the official press images unveiled in December, the S90 had generated curiosity owing to its stunning exterior and luxurious interior. The unmistakable T-shaped Thor’s hammer headlights depict the future design philosophy of Volvo cars which can also be seen on the new XC90.

At the unveil of S90, Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design at Volvo Car Group, “We created our new flagship sedan, the Volvo S90, as a real game changer. It is classy and cool. The exterior is exceptionally well surfaced with a fantastic stance and the sort of clean lines that are singularly appropriate of a Scandinavian design. The interior masters the art of blending innovative technology and natural materials into an elegant, welcoming and tasteful ambience, Swedishness at its best,”

The design cues of Volvo XC90 are continued in the interior of S90 as well. The four-door coupe is furnished with exclusive materials providing the luxurious feel it deserves, which is complimented by a new dashboard design and instrumental panel. Air-con vents stand vertically on either side of the ‘Sensus’ tablet oriented user interface.

The new Volvo S90 will receive IntelliSafe Assist as a standard feature which comprises of Adaptive cruise control, Distance alert, and Pilot assist. The Pilot assist cohesively backs the user of the car in providing subtle steering inputs to maintain vehicle’s current lane, thus progressing towards autonomous drive concept by Volvo. The new S90 also consist of a feature which is capable of detecting large animals, day or night. Called the City Safe, aids to offer initiative warnings signs and brake support to help negotiate through such obstacles.

We expect Volvo to bring the new S90 to India by mid-2016. The new Volvo S90 premium sedan will go up against the likes of Jaguar XF, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6.
