At the recent Volvo dealership launch in Mumbai, Tomas Ernberg, MD Volvo Auto India touched upon how important the Indian market is for the brand.
To establish a stronghold in the Indian scenario, Volvo will be introducing a standard version of its V40 Cross Country. The car that goes up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and the BMW 1 Series, is about to receive a facelift soon. The standard version of the V40 hatchback will continue to be powered by the company’s D3 2.0-litre diesel mill but alongside that, Volvo is also planning to introduce a petrol version. The gasoline variant will only be made available in the top-of-the-line trim. The V40 hatchback will be priced less than Rs 30 lakh.
Currently, Volvo only has diesel engine options for its entry-level sedan S60. But in the next quarter, the Swedish car maker is all set to being in a petrol engine option too. Volvo already has a 2.0-litre petrol engine in their international line-up which it plans to bring to India in the V40 hatchback as well as the S60. In the entry-level sedan though, Volvo will just bring in the T6 4-cylinder turbo petrol unit that makes 306 horses and 400Nm. Needless to say that both these cars will come equipped with all the bells and whistles as far as safety is concerned.
And then in the third quarter Volvo will introduce its flagship 2015 XC90 SUV. The new Volvo XC90 will be powered by the D5 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor that makes 217PS and 440Nm. The SUV will come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
To ensure that these new offerings find the right kind of sales figures, Volvo is planning to expand its dealership network across the country.
