Volvo XC90 R Design to be launched in India

To cater to the platter of SUV obsessed Indian car buyers, Volvo Auto India is mulling with the idea of introducing various variants of its recently launched all-new Volvo XC90. The Swedish car maker has rolled out the luxury SUV in two trims in India – the VolvoXC90 Momentum at Rs 64.5 lakh and the more top-end Inscription variant at Rs 76.9 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).

During an interaction Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director of Volvo Auto India told media that the company is also considering introducing a range of other variants of the new Volvo XC90. This would include the uber luxurious 4-seater version of the Volvo XC90 called the Excellence, the sporty R-Design and also the top of the line twin engine T8 Hybrid version.

New Volvo XC90 Excellence is the most luxurious model made by Volvo

The Volvo XC90 Excellence is perhaps the most opulent car model made by the Swedish car maker till date, which was unveiled earlier this year at the Auto Shanghai 2015. What makes this version special is that instead of the usual 7-seat option of the XC90, the Excellence offers a more comfortable seating option of individual 2+2 layout, which come with integrated cooling and heating option along with massage feature. With no third row seats, the second row has been pushed back to carve out additional legroom for the passengers. This makes the Volvo XC90 Excellence version ideal for markets like India and China where people prefer to be chauffeured around.

And to make the journey more luxurious for the rear seat passengers, the Excellence also offers touchscreen infotainment system, folding tables, footrests, ambient lighting, a refrigerator and a heating/cooling cup holder. It also gets improved sound insulation, with Pirelli Noise Canceling System tyres (PNCS), and an even better 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

While the Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid comes with two engines – a conventional 2.0-liter supercharged 4-cylinder unit and an electric motor that produce a combined power output of 403PS and torque figure of 640Nm. The company says that the hybrid Volvo XC90 can dash from 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds, and yet returns an impressively low emission of 59 grams of CO2 per km.
