Volvo has revealed the Concept XC Coupe a week prior to the Detroit motor Show where it will be showcased. The aging XC90 SUV could be replaced by a production version of this concept. The XC Concept Coupe is the second of three new Volvo concepts penned by Thomas Ingenlath, their new design chief. If you recall, the first concept Coupe was revealed in September 2013.

The Concept XC Coupe has been developed for people with active lifestyles says Volvo. The design is inspired by sports equipment and demonstrates the safety capabilities of Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture that will spawn a new range of SUVs in the future.

The new Concept has a lot in common with the first concept Coupe but the SUV positioning is evident. It has 21 inch wheels, stronger shoulders with pronounced wheel arches and it looks considerably taller too.

The distinctive T-shaped daytime running lights on the headlights and a modern interpretation of the traditional Volvo taillights show Volvo’s future design direction. "Both concept cars show how we can shape our cars from now on. We add emotional value to the Volvo brand with the calm, confident beauty that is the hallmark of Scandinavian design," says Thomas Ingenlath.
