Volkswagen recalls 3,877 Vento sedans with 1.5-litre diesel engine

Volkswagen Group India has announced a nation-wide recall of 3,877 Vento sedans with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and manual transmission. The recall is in context to the inconsistent carbon monoxide (CO) emissions which was reported to be higher than the predefined levels. The test was conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) during the Conformity of Production (COP) of the car. In relation to the recall, the German manufacturer has also announced that the sale of the Vento sedan with the 1.5-litre diesel engine with manual transmission has been temporarily stopped with immediate effect.

The company will resume the sale of the affected vehicles only after the emission inconsistency issue has been resolved with proper technical measures approved by ARAI authorities. The technical measures will be further carried out on the affected Vento sedans that have been sold.

VW has highlighted that the recall is only related to the manual transmission variant of the 1.5-litre Vento sedan and is not related to the global NOx emission scandal.

The car maker had recently announced a recall of 3.23 lakh diesel cars in December 2015 to carry out technical fixes for the E189 diesel engine. The emission violating diesel engine was found to be used in cars of the VW Group-owned companies which consisted of Skoda, Audi, and Volkswagen.

The brand has stated that all vehicles produced by the company are safe to use and are roadworthy. Also, the production and sale of the other diesel models and variants of the Vento will be continued as they are compliant with the emission norms, as per Volkswagen India.
