VW implements third shift for Ameo

Volkswagen revealed the India specific Ameo to us just prior to the 2016 Auto Expo and with the launch expected around June, the Ameo is set to be a part of the assembly line. Today, Volkswagen have announced that they have integrated a third shift at the company’s Chakan plant. The third shift has been added to increase the plant’s capacity and aid the production of the Ameo. Currently, the plant can produce a maximum of 1,30,000 cars per year based on a two-shift system. With the addition of the third one, the company aims to increase its sales by 15 percent this year compared to the previous one. In addition, VW has also hired 800 new employees with varying skill sets to work on the production lines and plans t hire even more employees as production rises during the year. Volkswagen is heavily banking on its first India specific car to be a hit with the Indian customers and expects a high demand of the vehicle. In addition, VW also plans to export the India produced Ameo to other countries as well.

The company currently manufactures Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Vento and ŠKODA Rapid at its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune along with the 1.5-litre TDI engine. So far, the company has invested Euro 800 million in the plant and currently employs over 4000 people.
