2015 Michelin Challenge Design winners announced

The Michelin Design Challenge is a competition in which designers are challenged to imagine what the transportation concepts of the future might look like. For 2015, the participants were specifically asked to submit designs in line with the ‘Drive Your Passion’ theme that elicit pure driving pleasure, and to place their designs onto iconic roads, such as the Khardung Pass in India or Stelvio Pass in Italy.

The tyre maker has announced 15 individuals as winners of this year’s challenge from India and eight other countries for their efforts. The winning designs for the latest challenge were selected from more than 1,100 registrants in 81 countries.

Commenting on the contest, Thom Roach, Vice-President, Original Equipment Marketing, Michelin North and South America, said, “The Michelin Challenge Design competition celebrates and promotes innovation in vehicle design and passion in design, which has been a part of Michelin’s culture since our company was founded. We congratulate the winners on communicating their personal signatures and passion for the future through their Michelin Challenge Design entries."

First place went to South Korea’s Youngjai Jun and Gunyoung Yoon, with Aurelien Deleuze, Pierre-Hugues Vallin and Robinson Mancaux from France named as runners up. Cristian Polanco from Guatemala stood third.

Additional winners of this contest are: Mehdi Alamdari and Ali Doostdar from Australia, Nicholas Lee Dunderdale from United Kingdom, Arjun Govil from India, Jean Hiss and Robin Apprioual from France, Jihwan Jung from South Korea, Marko Lukovic from Serbia, Marcos Magister and Sebastian Vereertbrugghen from Belgium, Jean-Thomas Mayer from France, Hankil Moon from South Korea, Siriphong Roongruengvuthikul from United Kingdom, Petar Vukovic from Serbia and Emre Yazici from Turkey.

The three highest-placed winners have been invited to attend the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) as guests of Michelin and will be recognised during the tyre maker’s annual private Designer’s Reception. Michelin will display the designs of all 15 winners at the 2015 NAIAS in Detroit which is scheduled to take place in January. Over fourteen years, Michelin Challenge Design has received a total of over 7,300 entries from 118 countries.
